Tewit Silver Band…

Owen has been the Principal Cornet player of the Tewit Silver Band ever since the band’s inception in 2017. Under the guidance of Musical Director Martin Hall, the band has enjoyed incredible early successes. Starting in the lowest division or ‘section’ of a highly competitive brass band league system; they are quickly working their way up.

The band won a remarkable 8 contests in a row between 2018 and 2020, winning a National title, a North of England crown, the prestigious Butlin’s Mineworkers Contest and promotion to the 3rd section. Next, they immediately won the same run of contests all over again; this time in the 3rd section placing them inside the top 200 bands in the world rankings. Over this remarkable run, Owen won numerous ‘best soloist’ awards as the band’s Principal Cornet player.

Owen has had a long relationship with the Tewit name. Although the Silver Band is a recent creation, the Tewit Youth Band was formed in 1978 and was the band Owen joined as a child in 1994. The youth arm of Tewit continues to go from strength-to-strength, with a 4-band pyramid set-up totalling some 100 young people. Many players go onto to music college and a career in music when they leave at 18, thanks to the musical education and grounding the band gives them. Some of the very best youth players are more than capable of playing alongside the adults, and are also members of the Tewit Silver Band.
